smilemaker loves art:)

Frida Kahlo[1](July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954) was a Mexican painter, who has achieved great international popularity. She painted using vibrant colors in a style that was influenced by indigenous cultures of Mexico as well as European influences that include Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism. Many of her works are self-portraits that symbolically express her own pain. Kahlo was married to and influenced by the Mexican/Spanish muralist Diego Rivera and shared his Communist views. Although she has long been recognized as an important painter, public awareness of her work has become more widespread since the 1970s. Her "Blue" house in Coyoacán, Mexico City is a popular museum, donated by Diego Rivera after his death in 1957.

some fab quotes from Frida:)
Feet, why do I need them if I have wings to fly?
Frida Kahlo
I am not sick. I am broken. But I am happy as long as I can paint.
Frida Kahlo
I drank to drown my pain, but the damned pain learned how to swim, and now I am overwhelmed by this decent and good behavior.
Frida Kahlo
I hope the leaving is joyful; and I hope never to return.
Frida Kahlo

I paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to, and I paint whatever passes through my head without any other consideration.
Frida Kahlo
- More quotations on: [Art]
I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best.
Frida Kahlo
They are so damn 'intellectual' and rotten that I can't stand them anymore....I [would] rather sit on the floor in the market of Toluca and sell tortillas, than have anything to do with those 'artistic' bitches of Paris.
Frida Kahlo, (on Andre Breton and the European surrealists) letter to Nickolas Muray, 02-16-1939
People in general are scared to death of the war and all the exhibition have been a failure, because the rich - don't want to buy anything.

Silver Screen superstar Hedy Lamarr (born Hedwig Kiesler Markey) with the help of composer George Antheil invented a secret communication system in an effort to help the allies defeat the Germans in World War II. The invention, patented in 1941, manipulated radio frequencies between transmission and reception to develop an unbreakable code so that top-secret messages could not be intercepted. The technology called spread spectrum, now takes on many forms. However, all the spread spectrum that we use today directly or indirectly, flows from the invention created by

smilemaker loves Reno:)

which one is the real Janet:)

Janet Reno, the first female Attorney General of the United States, has had a life filled with "firsts." Reno graduated from Cornell University in 1960 with a degree in chemistry, having worked her way through school as a waitress and dormitory supervisor. She then earned her law degree from Harvard Law School in 1963, one of sixteen women in a class of more than 500. She eventually became a partner in a law firm that had previously denied her a position because she was a woman.

“Here's a little known fact - Arnold is the first body builder to run for governor since Janet Reno.”

smilemaker enjoys attitude:)

I mean more to me than I mean to anybody else.

Margaret Brown is widely known as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," a woman famous for surviving the sinking of the Titanic. She was also an actress, an activist and was a devoted philanthropist.

I Look to Thee in Every Need

I look to Thee in every need, and never look in vain;
I feel Thy strong and tender love, and all is well again.
The thought of Thee is mightier far than sin and pain and sorrow are.

Discouraged in the work of life, disheartened by its load,
Shamed by its failures or its fears, I sink beside the road.
But let me only think of Thee and then new heart springs up in me.

Thy calmness bends serene above, my restlessness to still;
Around me flows Thy quickening life, to nerve my faltering will.
Thy presence fills my solitude, Thy providence turns all to good.

Enfolded deep in Thy dear love, held in Thy law, I stand;
Thy hand in all things I behold, and all things in Thy hand.
Thou leadest me by unsought ways, and turn my mourning into praise.

Smilemaker wants the little things:)

Erica Jong, author
Everyone has talent. What is rare is the courage to follow the talent to the dark place where it leads.

The little things
It only takes a minute or two for you to make a little progress. And a little progress can put you solidly on the road to a lot more.
It only takes a small effort to give a little kindness. And a little kindness can easily multiply itself again and again until it starts to make a big difference.

It only takes a simple adjustment of your attitude to build a little enthusiasm. And with a little enthusiasm you can attract the support of many others.

Small positive changes are easy to make. In between all the things you're already doing, there are numerous opportunities to fill in the spaces with extra treasures.

And the small positive changes do something much more powerful than making a difference in the world. They make a difference in you.

Get in the habit of making small positive changes, and soon you'll be experiencing big, valuable accomplishments. Let the little things put your spirit in a positive place, and that can change your life in magnificent, profound ways.

-- Ralph Marston

Hillary is not the first:)

Victoria Claflin Woodhull (September 23, 1838 – June 9, 1927) was an American suffragist who was publicized in Gilded Age newspapers as a leader of the American woman's suffrage movement in the 19th century. She became a colorful and notorious symbol for women's rights, free love, and labor reforms. The authorship of her speeches and articles is disputed. Some contend that many of her speeches on these subjects were not written by Woodhull herself, but her role as a representative of these movements was nonetheless powerful and controversial. She is probably most famous for her declaration to run for the United States Presidency in 1872.

Mary Elizabeth Frye (1904-2004)

Do not Stand at my Grave and Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there: I did not die

Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

day one:)

Matthew 7 >>
GOD'S WORD ® Translation
1 "Stop judging so that you will not be judged. 2 Otherwise, you will be judged by the same standard you use to judge others. The standards you use for others will be applied to you. 3 So why do you see the piece of sawdust in another believer's eye and not notice the wooden beam in your own eye? 4 How can you say to another believer, 'Let me take the piece of sawdust out of your eye,' when you have a beam in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye. Then you will see clearly to remove the piece of sawdust from another believer's eye.

happy weekend :)

an early post:)

This weekend I, go to fill myself with rest, religion and more rest:) and the best part is my best friend will be with me so we will enjoy another weekend of religion, except this weekend we will not work:) last year I found the gift of being still:
be still be still and know that I am the lord;) that was the best gift ever , because this entire year I have followed that path and found a great gift, the gift of self, I found myself , with the help of the lord, I found that I can speak , I can listen, and most of all I can expect respect all the time :) so I pray for my next gift to come and I wait with open heart:)

Wait with purpose:
my inner self as well as my body is also exceedingly disturbed and troubled. but you, o lord, how long until you return and speak peace to me? return to my relief, o lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of you steadfast love and mercy; psalm 6:3-4

avoid getting negative when you look at your circumstances. actively wait on god to give you strength to walk in the fruit of the spirit . wait with purpose, silently listening for him to speak, eagerly watching for him to act.
tell him,"lord, I receive strength to be your ambassador and withness your word tell me to love people who mistreat me. though is is hard to do in the natural, I receive strength from you to be loving today"
then watch for the opportunity to act godly as he gives you the strength to do so.
